Jump to Vanguards, Duelists or Strategists. Each section takes three heroes from the official October 9 balance post and turns the change into one practice comparison. These are selected examples, not an exhaustive roster or a leaderboard; filter a role in the patch viewer for every listed change.
Vanguards
| Hero | Specific change | Decision to examine |
|---|---|---|
| Devil Dinosaur | 850→825 base health | Compare survival during your actual entry instead of adding a legacy anchor bonus. |
| Magneto | Emma Frost projection 45%→50%, maximum 5s→6s | Check the selected partner effect; it is not a buff to every damage source. |
| The Thing | Invisible Woman effect 20s→15s cooldown | Ask whether your lineup and selected Team-Up meet the condition. |
For Dinosaur, write down how you intend to enter and how you will leave. The 25-point base-health reduction is a fact; whether it changes your survival depends on the incoming attacks and your team’s response. Try the same short entry in Practice Range, stop after the first exchange and note whether you still have a defensive option. Do not add the legacy +100 Team-Up field: the Dinosaur guide explains the conflicting official records.
For Magneto, first select the Emma Frost Team-Up and read its projection effect. Compare a short activation with the new six-second maximum; a longer available duration does not require remaining exposed for the full duration. The Thing example requires Invisible Woman: check that the partner is present before using the 15-second figure in a plan, and decide who starts the exchange, who follows and who stays available when the first action ends.
After a failed attempt, distinguish an unavailable action, a missing partner and an entry made without follow-up. Those are different corrections.
Duelists
| Hero | Specific change | Decision to examine |
|---|---|---|
| Iron Man | Automatic missile tracking with reduced per-shot damage | Compare target acquisition and cover, not only the smaller number. |
| Phoenix | Spark self-healing replaced by temporary Bonus Health | Do not plan as though the old self-heal remains available. |
| Cyclops | Optic Blast and Ruby Rage energy changes | Practice actual hit consistency before expecting faster availability. |
Iron Man’s October change adds tracking to Micro-Missiles while reducing single-shot damage and increasing projectile speed. Choose a practice target and compare whether you can acquire it, whether the missiles connect and whether you can recover to cover. The post also limits locks on one target; this is not an unlimited damage assumption.
Cyclops’ Optic Blast changes interact with hit checks and cooldown reduction. Use the Cyclops practice guide to compare a clear line with terrain interaction, then note missed contact separately from an action that was not ready. An energy-cost reduction does not guarantee an ultimate at a particular fight.
Phoenix’s Spark change replaces self-healing with temporary Bonus Health. Before repeating an old sequence, inspect the current effect and its cap/expiry. Plan a short attempt with an exit, then record whether the issue was making contact, spending the defensive margin or remaining exposed after the action.
Strategists
| Hero | Specific change | Decision to examine |
|---|---|---|
| Jubilee | Sprint self-heal 25/s, shorter Blind 0.8s | Choose whether the moment calls for sustain or control; the patch changes both. |
| Gambit | Charge time 8s→7s, reduced ultimate search range | Check whom you can actually reach; a faster charge does not expand range. |
| Adam Warlock | Cosmic Cluster healing 16→18 with Ultron | Check that the matching Team-Up and effect are selected before comparing healing. |
For Gambit, separate charge availability from target reach. The October post reduces charge time to seven seconds while also reducing Royal Flush’s target-search range from 40 to 30 metres. Pick the teammate you intend to support, read the current range indicator and record which constraint stopped the action.
For Jubilee, the new Sprint self-heal and shorter Blind answer different situations. Try one planned reposition using Sprint, then a separate control attempt, and record whether the difficulty was reaching cover, sustaining yourself or timing the control.
Adam Warlock’s Cosmic Cluster figures belong to the Ultron Team-Up. Use the lineup worksheet to check that pair, then inspect the selected effect in game. The post changes both cluster and explosion healing; compare the relevant part rather than adding them into a guaranteed heal for every action.
Record a decision rather than a score
On the personal board, move a hero only with a reason you can observe, such as “can repeat this entry with my group” or “remembers the partner condition.” Compare the same situation before changing a placement. The sources establish the listed changes, not your opponents’ damage, your positioning or a win rate. The October 15 general fixes are tracked separately from the October 9 balance pass.
